Everything You Need to Know About Tummy Tucks

What are Tummy Tucks?

As we age, lose weight, and especially after kids, we notice our stomach muscles aren’t as strong and the skin around our mid section seems saggy. Ugh! Gone are the days of a tight midsection right? Wrong! Introduce the Tummy Tuck… a surgical procedure that tightens the interior muscles and exterior skin on your abdomen giving you a tight and contoured body that can make you look and feel younger!

  • You might want to think about a tummy tuck if:
  •
  • • You have had a significant change in weight
  • • You have been through pregnancy and just can’t get back to your goal
  • • You have had an abdominal surgery, such as a C-section
  • • You body is aging and your skin elasticity isn’t what it used to be
  • • You natural body isn’t matching what you want
  •

Your doctor might caution against a tummy tuck if you:

  • • Plan to lose a significant amount of weight
    • Might consider pregnancy in the future
  • • Have a severe chronic condition, such as heart disease or diabetes
    • Have a body mass index (BMI) that’s greater than 30
    • Smoke
    • Have had a previous abdominal surgery that caused significant scar tissue
  •

What Happens During a Tummy Tuck?

Tummy Tuck surgery, also known as Abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen, while tightening the abdominal muscles to create a flat and toned appearance. This procedure is often ideal for middle-aged women who have experienced changes in their body due to pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or aging.

A Tummy Tuck will help to smooth out your stomach and improve your curves and so is often combined with other procedures to achieve overall body contouring. An example of this is the mommy makeover.

It’s important to make note that even though liposuction is often something your surgeon will include as part of your recommendation, this is not a weight loss solution. Exercise and a healthy diet are essential!

Tummy Tuck After Care

The recovery process after Tummy Tuck surgery can vary, but most middle-aged women experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the first few days. You can expect to be back to normal activities within 2-4 weeks, although strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks.

Tummy Tuck surgery is considered safe for most women who are in good health. However, as with any surgery, there are risks and potential complications, which should be discussed with your surgeon.
