Recovery differs depending on the type of cosmetic surgery. Below are some of the most common surgeries that could benefit from our CosMed At Home service.

Abdominoplasty
Following an abdominoplasty procedure, you will have an abdominal binder in place and typically two drains that remain in place for about a week. A compression garment is recommended to be worn at all times over the next 4 weeks or more. Individuals typically return to non-strenuous activities including work in 1-2 weeks. Patients are encouraged to do some light walking typically every hour. “Rest but not bed rest.” Heavy lifting and strenuous activity including high intensity interval training and cardiovascular workouts should be restricted for 6-8 weeks to ensure proper healing.

Face Lift/Brow Lift/Eye Lift
Following a Facelift procedure most surgeons will have you in a compression dressing. Typically, this is removed 24-48 hours after the procedure by your surgeon. You can expect some swelling and bruising after your procedure. The swelling should resolve over the next week and the bruising over the next two to three weeks. You should also expect some numbness near the lower face and mouth due to local anesthetic injected in the area during the procedure. This will slowly wear off within 8 hours of your procedure. Soft foods are suggested minimal talking/jaw movement the first 24-48hrs. Heavy lifting and strenuous activity including high intensity interval training and cardiovascular workouts should be restricted for 4-6 weeks. Individuals typically return to non-strenuous activities including work within 2 weeks.

Breast Lift/Reduction/Augmentation
Following a breast lift and/or reduction you may have two drains in place, these typically are removed within the first week. Drains are not typically placed following a breast augmentation. For all breast procedures a breast garment will be placed and worn at all times except when showering. Individuals typically return to non-strenuous activities including work in 5-10 days. Heavy lifting and strenuous activity including high intensity interval training and cardiovascular workouts should be restricted for 3-4 weeks to ensure proper healing.

Pain is very subjective and every person’s pain tolerance is different. Your surgeon will ensure that your pain is tolerable post-procedure by prescribing pain medication. Mild to moderate discomfort is typical the first couple of days following the procedure. This pain will slowly alleviate over your first week of recovery. Always discuss pain relief measures during your pre-operative appointments.

The first 24-48hrs it is crucial to have a nurse assist you in your activities of daily living. Especially assistance in light housekeeping and food preparation. Following your surgeons’ post-operative instructions are key in your end-result. Having a nurse that specializes in this with you will alleviate your post-operative concerns.

Plastic surgeons recommend our services to help advance your recovery with safety as our main focus. Physical exertion or stress could lead to serious complications. Our nurses will minimize such risks by caring for and pampering you throughout the recovery process.

To plan accordingly, our CosMed Concierge team requests a minimum of two weeks (prior to surgery) for scheduling. We recommend scheduling your CosMed At Home nurse as early as possible, preferably at the time you book your surgery. Although advanced scheduling is preferred, we will do our best to accommodate you in your recovery process.

All CosMed At Home nurses are licensed, carefully screened, and go through a rigorous selection process. Your nurse will be experienced in plastic surgery recovery, possess high customer service standards, and have a warm bedside manner.

Absolutely! We will schedule a get-to-know-you session via Zoom or in-person prior to your surgery. This session will allow you both to establish a sense of familiarity and comfort, address any questions, and help your nurse to better understand your preferences.

We want you to go into surgery relaxed, knowing that when it’s time to go home you will continue to have the highest quality care.

Yes! If you choose, CosMed can arrange transportation for day of surgery. If your follow-up visit is scheduled during your care experience with CosMed at Home, your nurse can transport you to your appointment. If it falls outside that period of time and transportation is still needed, our CosMed Concierge Service will be happy to arrange alternative transportation to or from your surgery and/or post-operative appointments.

Your CosMed At Home nurse can administer your medications and assist with wound care, drain tubes, and more. They can also help with activities such as bathing, getting dressed, meal prep, light housekeeping, laundry, pet care, and general household management. We will work with you and your surgeon’s office to customize a plan of care that promotes your safety, comfort, and the best outcome for recovery.
